Morning Duties – Setting the Stage
Every morning at Garden of Eden begins with a crucial responsibility that sets the tone for our entire day. As I adjust my name badge and boot up our point-of-sale system, I’m already mentally preparing for the hundreds of times I’ll be asking that all-important question: “May I see your ID, please?”
The Importance of Vigilance
Working in age-restricted retail isn’t just about checking boxes – it’s about:
* Protecting our community
* Maintaining compliance
* Building trust with customers
* Ensuring business sustainability
Afternoon Rush
The lunch hour brings our biggest rush, with customers hurrying in during their breaks. Each interaction follows our strict protocol – no exceptions, no matter how rushed or frustrated a customer might seem. Even if someone looks well over 21, our policy requires ID verification for everyone who appears under 35.
Common Scenarios
Throughout my shift, I encounter various situations:
* Expired IDs
* Out-of-state licenses
* International passports
* Forgotten identification
End of Day Reflections
As my shift winds down, I take pride in knowing that every “no” to an unverified customer helps protect both our business and our community. While some may find the constant ID checks tedious, we understand that this diligence is what keeps our doors open and our customers safe.
Remember, checking IDs isn’t just a job requirement – it’s a responsibility we take seriously every single day at Garden of Eden.
